MOSCOW, Sept 11 (Reuters) – A suicide bomber has blown himself up in a truck at a traffic police checkpoint in Russia’s volatile Ingushetia region, Russian agencies reported on Friday, citing a source in the interior regional ministry. Itar-Tass news agency, quoting the source, said policemen were killed in the attack, but did not give a number. The attack took place at 9:50 pm (1750 GMT) Moscow time, in the region’s main city of Nazran, Interfax said. A series of suicide bombs and armed attacks on police and security forces in Chechnya, where Russia has fought two separatist wars, and neighbouring Ingushetia and Dagestan, have shattered a few years of relative calm in the North Caucasus. Regional leaders have warned Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that an Islamist insurgency has permeated all spheres of society and that they are struggling to contain it.
