Localism- a political reaction to globalism and nationalism, localism describes a range of political philosophies that prioritize the local. Localvores support local production and consumption of goods, local control of government, and local culture and identity. Localism also supports self-sufficiency within regions. Some localists are against political intervention and peacekeeping measures and believe that communities should find solutions to their own problems, in their own time, in whatever fashion they decide. Localism has become popularized through books such as the “100 Mile Diet” and the slow food movement, which advocates eating only food that grows and is processed within a hundred miles of the consumer.
